Overview
- Pre-martial counseling can prepare a couple for a happy and healthy marriage.
- A focus on God within the marriage will help to have a successful marriage.
- There are parallels between having a successful marriage, and having successful relationships with God, The Church, and others.
- The marriage relationship needs to be a triangle with the points being: God, Your Spouse, and Yourself.
- Any relationship will benefit from having this design, with the points of the triangle being: God, Others, and Yourself.
- One common misconception of marriage is that each individual expects the same things from a marriage. Expectations must be discussed with each other. Once you truly know your spouse’s expectations, you will be better equipped to fulfill your spouse’s wants and needs.
- Listening to each other can be a deeply meaningful experience.
- Love can be shown by finding ways to serve each other.
- Many are called to do vastly different tasks in the Kingdom of God.
- A second common misconception of marriage is that marriage will fix problems already in existence. It is unfair to “expect” others to fix your own problems.
- God does not promise a perfect existence. But we can find hope in looking to Jesus Christ.
- Choose happiness…you control yourself, not others.
- Don’t let your circumstances dictate your happiness or determine your attitude in your relationships.
- Joy is an important gift from God.
- Self-pity is a saboteur of happiness.
- Our actions can affect others.
- Choose to let Jesus Christ lead your relationships.
