Sermon Overview
►Consciousness-the state of being awake, aware of one’s surroundings, and aware of one’s self.
►Sentiency-The faculty through which the external world is apprehended. Our senses, our emotions, the ability to experience.
►The ability to ask “Why”, is a uniquely human condition.
►The presence of morals in our world only exists due to humans being a part of this world.
►The Darwinian Theory of Evolution fails to explain why Sentiency is only present within humans.
►Man was made in the likeness of God. Our human condition, unique in this world, with intelligence, the understanding of right and wrong, the ability to empathize with another, the ability to lessen the pain of another and the ability to communicate at a high level, is all a result of being created in the likeness of the creator of the universe.
►When Adam and Eve fell in the Garden of Eden, we were removed from the natural world, gaining the ability to experience pain and experience joy.
►Four points to consider:
1. We must acknowledge that the “natural man” exists within us. This gives us the ability to reflect on our actions, and seek grace and forgiveness.
2. We must acknowledge that the “natural man” exists with everyone else as well. When we do this, we are quicker to offer grace, forgiveness and mercy. We enter a greater state of humility, and find it easier to empathize with others.
3. Within us lies a piece of the creator of the universe. Each of us have been given specific gifts that we need to consider how to use.
4. Within others, a piece of the creator also exists. Recognizing that others have the divine within them, yet are devoid of joy leads us to consider what we can do to share the gospel roadmap with them.
